rdBPtools Tutorial 4.2 – Adding new objects into Prefabs
Last Updated: 10th December 2024
Tutorial created using rdBPtools version 1.40
Along with editing existing instances in rdPrefabs, you can also add and/or harvest existing actors into your prefabs with the “Update Prefab with Selection” tool.
This tutorial will walk through adding some objects to an already build house prefab.
Step 1. Add your prefab to the level and add some actors
In this example, it seemed quite useful to have a coffee bar outside my house, so I’ve added some assets from a Convience Store pack to the level.
Step 2. Select the prefab, and additional Actors and select the tool
Now select the Prefab – as the tool scans through finding the first selected prefab and deeming that the destination, then each of the additional actors you want to add.
Right-click and select the “Update Prefab with Selection” menu option in the rdBPtools section.
Step 3. Choose the options from the Settings Window
Now select the options you want, generally the defaults work well.
When “Update Asset” is ticked, this will also update the main Asset, otherwise just the selected instance is updated. You don’t have the option of Updating Transforms or Removing missing actors when unticked.
Step 4. Done.
That’s it – the instance will now contain the new actors. You can store these in the main Asset if you didn’t already by using the technique described in the next tutorial.
