Installing or Updating rdLODtools
Last Updated: 28th August 2025
Installing rdLODtools is simple, just install it from the Epic Launcher in the same way as you do other plugins. It should be enabled by default, but if not, you can do so from the Plugins Settings Window.
You can also manually copy the rdLODtools folder to your projects “Plugins” folder to use locally.
Updating rdLODtools
If you update rdLODtools from the Epic Launcher or manually copied it – the latest binaries should be used in your project.
rdLODtools also has support Materials and Functions that may have also been updated.
When rdLODtools LODs are created, these files are copied locally to your project in the “/Game/rdTools/System/rdLOD/” folder – it checks if they exist, and if they do – it just ignores them.
This way you get the chance to Rename that folder before using the Tools in rdLODtools – any existing assets you’ve built will use the older, renamed ones. This shouldn’t be necessary unless I state something along those lines, but if you want to play it safe.
To get the updated files without backing up, just delete the “/Game/rdTools/System/rdLOD/” folder – you may get some warnings, just ignore them. Then create one of the Billboard/Impostor etc LODs – all the new files will be copied over.
