rdPalettes Tutorial 1.1 – Starting Off
Last Updated: 7th June 2026
Tutorial created using rdPalettes version 1.0
This isn’t so much a tutorial as a break-down of starting the rdPalettes plugin with UE.
There really isn’t anything you’ll need to do to start rdPalettes up – just make sure the plugin is installed and enabled (it is by default).
You should see an entry in the Tools menu under rdTools and a toolbar icon in the main toolbar (by default, you can turn that off from the settings).

You can open the palettes by clicking on the toolbar icon, or by using the shift+1 shortcut. They only open in the correct mode, so at this point in time – none open in level editing, just one in Landscape Editing and one in Foliage Editing.

You can access the rdPalettes settings from the “Tools->rdTools->rdPalettes->Settings” menu option (that’s the “Tools” menu in the main top menu bar) or by clicking on the config button on the palettes themselves.

By default, all the slots for both Foliage and Landscape Editors are empty. It’s up to you to assign each slot to what you want.
You simply hold shift and left-click a slot in a palette, or if using keyboard shortcuts, hold shift+ctrl+F? key to save the current details in the Foliage/Landscape panels to a slot.
