There are a few ways to show/hide/dim the palette windows – this tutorial goes through how to set these up.

Normal Hide/Show:

The most common way to hide/show the palette is with either the Toolbar icon, or by using the Keyboard shortcut shift+1. The current edit mode must be either Landscape Mode or Foliage Mode.

Fade Out:

From the rdPalette settings (Tools->rdTools->rdPalettes->Settings) you can enable auto-fade out. When the mouse leaves the pallette area, after a short (configurable) pause the pallete fades down to a configured amount. This can help not draw attention to it while you’re editing.
