rdSplatTools Tutorial 2.13 – Using the Interiorness function
Last Updated: 12th October 2026
Tutorial created using rdSplatTools version 1.00
Along with rdSplats for controlling ambient sounds shape, there is also an “Interiorness” function built into the rdSplatTools subsystem. This can be used to find if the player is currently inside a structure, and if so – how far the walls are. This function is very fast (around 2.5microseconds in a packaged build on a 12th gen i7) and can be called from a Tick.
The results returned from this function can then be used to modify things such as the LowPass or HighPass Filter (for subduing external sounds), modifying the reverberation (that can also use the wall distance values). It removes the need to create rdSplat layers and paint the structures to control these things without the need of relying on other interfaces.
