rdSplatTools Tutorial 2.6 – Lowpass Filter Area

Last Updated: 23rd September 2026
Tutorial created using rdSplatTools version 1.00

In this tutorial we will make a scene of a beach with sand dunes – there are gaps between the sand dunes. What these steps capture is the way the ocean sound changes when it’s blocked by the sand dunes.

Step 1. Create or Load a level with a simple beach and sand dunes.

Step 2. Paint an Ocean Sound around the beach and dunes to the path

Paint the beach and dunes up to and past the path and give the path side a falloff (you can give all of it a falloff, but the less falloff – the less memory).

Step 3. Paint areas around behind the dunes in another layer for the LP Filter

Add another layer and set it as active, then paint behind the sand dunes on the path side.

Step 4. Create the MetaSound File

Now Right-Click in the content browser and select Audio->Metasound Source. Create the MetaSound like below:

The “Gust Depth” and “Gust Rate” ranges are 0.0->1.0. The “LPF Cutoff” range is 0.0->300.0

Step 5. Edit the FirstPerson BP

Add a SceneComponent for the pivot and add an Audio Component for the ocean sound (in the same way as Tutorial 4).

Add a LoadSplatMap to the BeginPlay Event:

And add this code to the Tick Event:

Step 6. Done.

Now just play the level and walk around the path – note how the ocean sound changes as you move behind the dunes and out again at the paths.
