rdSplineTools Tutorial 2.3 – Spline Snapping Settings
Last Updated: 22nd March 2025
Tutorial created using rdSplineTools 1.30
The rdSplineTools Snap Settings window allows you to control how you want the snapping to look and behave.
You can access this tool from the Epic Tools Menu:

This opens the window below:

The various options are described below:
Auto-draw Settings
The Auto-draw settings are used to specify the period of time of inactivity during a drag operation before rendering the splines contents. In UE5.4 and above the BPs construction doesn’t get called until the drag operation finishes – this tool allows you to render during drag – using a value of 0.0 gives you continuous draws while a larger one only draws when you stop dragging, but still have the mouse button pressed.
Intersection Snapping Settings
The Intersection Snapping options are used when dragging a spline point close to a SplineMesh (or StaticMesh) that has Intersection sockets. The settings (which are the same for each type) are:
Behavior: This can be None, Always or Hotkey, None disables it, Always snaps by default (unless the hotkey (defaulting to W) is held), and Hotkey only snaps when the hotkey (defaulting to W) is held.
Snap Tangents: When ticked, the tangents of the dragging point are snapped to the socket/point – for sockets this is controlled by the sockets rotation in combination with the sockets label (i.e contains “Left”) and for Spline Points it’s controlled by where the mouse pointer is in relation to the target snapping point.
Snapping Radius: The distance in Unreal Units at which to snap to the target.
Visibility Radius (Icon): The distance in Unreal Units at which to start fading the snapping icons in.
Far Color: The starting icon color (when at “Visibility Radius distance”). Defaults to 0,0,0,0 = fully transparent.
Near Color: The color for when the dragging point is at the “Snapping Radius”.
StaticMesh: The StaticMesh to use as the Icon.
Mesh Scale : The Scale of the StaticMesh (you can ramp it up if working with splines from a distance).
Socket Snapping Settings
These are the settings for the Lane Sockets (and anything other than Intersection Sockets).
Spline Point Snapping Settings
These are the options the Spline Point Snapping tool.
